TEENY TUCKER
www.myspace.com/teenytucker
Teeny Tucker, from Dayton Ohio, was born into Blues royalty, (she’s the daughter of Tommy Tucker of “Hi-Heel Sneakers” fame), but her considerable talent is all her own. Like so many other soulful success stories, Ms. Tucker began singing in the church choir thereby paving the way for a career in Blues and R&B.
Her high octane performances have commanded attention, but it’s the The Two Big M’s that initially caught the imagination of critics and audiences alike on the international Blues scene. The disc was nominated for best self-produced CD by the Blues Foundation of Memphis Tennessee, made a number of 2008 “best of” lists, and was the driving force for her nomination for “2008 Best Female Blues Artist” of the year by Illinois’ Blues Blast Magazine. (Adding even more significance to this award is that Ms. Tucker was in the company of such luminaries as the departed Queen of The Blues, Koko Taylor, and Betty LaVette).
The much anticipated follow-up, Keep The Blues Alive, was released last year and met with similar accolades. Keep the Blues Alive melds both her Blues and Soul influences, and ably showcases her Gospel roots, too, as evidenced in songs such as “I Wish We Could Go Back” and “Keep the Blues Alive”. The disc also contains “Old Man Magnet”, written by Tucker and her band leader Robert Hughes, that has received a 2011 International Songwriting Competition nomination for best original song in the Blues category.
To top it off, alongside the critical acclaim garnered by Keep The Blues Alive, Teeny has been nominated for a 2011 Blues Music Award - The “Koko Taylor Traditional Blues Female Artist of The Year!”
Teeny Tucker is a shooting star on the Blues horizon; catch her while you can on the main stage at Waterfront Blues!
