DANNY BROOKS & THE MEMPHIS BROTHERS
Main Stage - June 17, 2007

Toronto roots rocker Danny Brooks, part street-worn evangelist and part Blues savage, hoes a tough row. Bent on using his big, howling voice and no-frills poet's skills to testify to his Christian faith, he has the musical clout and credibility to satisfy, with help from legendary keyboardists/producer Richard Bell and guest Colin Linden on dobro, guitars and mandolin. But as good as the music is, it's Brooks' elemental songs that shine here. Honest, revelatory, 3-chord Country-Rock Blues and roadhouse flavored chronicles of a spiritual journey from the darkness of pain and trouble to the open grace of peace and praise. This is roots music of great distinction.- Greg Quill - Arts writer/Toronto Star
