The Reba Russell Band
Main Stage - June 10, 2006

Reba Russell has been touted as the hottest voice on Beale Street by Art Tipaldi in Blues Revue. His accolade is even more imposing when you take into account that Memphis, a city blessed with a rich and varied musical heritage, is considered Home of the Blues, Birthplace of Rock & Roll.

This reputation, both intimidating and ominous, is a lot for any city to live up to and can make for a very unforgiving experience for local and visiting musicians alike. But not so for Russell, a Memphis resident since the early 70’s, who’s an integral part of the Memphis musical fabric, and stands as one of the most talented singers in the city today. Her calling card is her impassioned vocals on a compelling body of work that combines traditional Blues and R&B with kick-ass Rock & Roll!

Reba started out singing back-up for various artists Tracy Nelson, Al Green, and Maria Muldaur head a long list but is now firmly in the driver’s seat. The winner of numerous local awards, Reba has her own production company, and has co-produced 5 independent cd’s to date. The latest, Broke Down But Not Out, showcases Reba’s versatility and vocal dynamics to the max while wired to a hot band.

The latest rendition of that band includes: husband Wayne Russell on bass and vocals, Robert “Nighthawk” Tooms on keys and harp, Doug McMinn on drums, and 18 year old phenom Josh Roberts on guitar. And in the true Memphis tradition, no matter what these players put out there, it “goes down greasy and finger lickin’”.

Reba and the band rarely venture north of the Mason Dixon line. Now, after a long wait, The Reba Russell Band returns to Toronto, to The Distillery Blues Festival, to play the Blues for you.
