ROXANNE POTVIN
Main Stage - June 10, 2005

Twenty-two year old Roxanne Potvin first appeared on the Ottawa Blues scene in 2001 co-fronting the band Fine Fat Daddy with harp player Frank Scanga. Displaying traditional Blues guitar chops and Jazz infused vocals, Roxanne has earned recognition from musicians and Blues fans alike, while establishing herself as one of the most promising new talents carrying on the Blues tradition.

With a vast array of influences: Texas Rock & Roll, West Coast Jump, 50's R&B, and traditional Chicago Blues, Roxanne is inspired by artists such as Ruth Brown, Dinah Washington, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, T-Bone Walker, Freddy King, and Jimmy Reed.

Roxanne made her recording debut in 2002, contributing an original tune on the J W Jones Blues Band Northern Blues release Bogart's Bounce, (which includes appearances by Blues giants Kim Wilson and Gene Taylor of The Fabulous Thunderbirds). She followed with the release of her much anticipated debut Careless Loving in 2003 that features a mix of originals and covers by Dinah Washington, Ruth Brown, Etta James, and Buddy Johnson. And, in 2004 Roxanne was honoured with her first Maple Blues Award nomination for Best New Artist.

Roxanne has shared the stage with, (among others),. Kim Wilson, Little Charlie Baty, Kid Ramos, Alberta Adams, Junior Watson, Mark Hummel, Jumpin' Johnny Sansone, Sue Foley and was featured with Dawn Tyler Watson in "Les Grandes Dames du Blues". She has performed at major festivals including the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Ottawa Cisco Systems BluesFest, and the Beaches International Jazz Festival.

Roxanne Potvin is sure to stir some hearts with her appearance at The Distillery Blues festival.
